We care about the environment and we believe in sustainable living. We don’t want to return to the dark ages and live in a world without the modern conveniences that we are all used to, but in order to preserve what we have we believe that people need to think about what they actually need in their lives. We all buy too much stuff. If you look in your bathroom cupboard you will no doubt find a huge array of bottles and jars, potions and lotions, many of which you will have had for quite some time and hardly used. It may seem very poor business strategy on our part to ask you to buy less toiletries, but in the long run we firmly believe that this will be better for you, for the future of our planet and for us too. Those items you do buy should be as natural as possible, biodegradable and they should be effective, i.e. they should do what they are supposed to.
In our efforts to produce as eco friendly a product as possible we would love to make soap using only locally grown produce and we are increasingly using local suppliers and producers for more and more of our ingredients, but we are not there yet. Some of the most effective natural ingredients are grown in far flung places, this puts an environmental cost onto what we produce before it has even left our workshop. This is why it is important that all of our products do what they say. Soap should clean without stripping the skin of its natural protective oils, moisturisers should be gentle and effective for your type of skin and used in small amounts, shampoos should clean without damaging the structure of the hair.
The air miles that our raw ingredients have already accumulated make it impossible for us to export our products with a clear conscience. We apologise to those who live outside of the UK and would like to try our products. There is growing interest in products like ours and many people all over the world are starting to sell natural and eco friendly skin care items… our advice is to support your local business’s and so encourage the growth of sustainable and ecologically sound business in your community.
If you are really unable to find the kind of products that you would like to buy in your local area you may consider learning how to make them yourself. We are happy to pass on our knowledge. Please see our courses pages, or discuss your needs with us by email or phone and we will try to help if we can.
